IIS is not 32-bit enabled

After you install IIS on a 64 bit Windows operating system and you go for BizTalk Server 2006 setup, you may get the following error:
IIS is not 32-bit enabled.

Reason is that If you are using Internet Information Services (IIS) 6 in a 64-bit environment, you must set IIS to 32-bit mode to run the BAM portal. In my case, I was having Windows 7 64-bit OS and BizTalk Server 2006 Developer Edition x86 version.

Solution is very simple. Run the following command on shell and you are done.
cscript.exe C:\Inetpub\AdminScripts\adsutil.vbs set W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32BitAppOnWin64 1

Cheers 🙂

  1. You can turn this off once installation in completed

    Enable32BitAppOnWin64 0

just make sure BAM app pool is 32-bit enabled

I am trying to enable IIS on a WinServer 2008 so that it is 32-bit enabled. However, the adminscripts directory does not exist under C:\inetpub\ – do i need to install another role for IIS? I’m looking at the different roles and looks like I already have everything i need, including IIS Management Scripts and Tools. Thx for any help. – Sharona

Have you installed Web Server IIS role correctly ? It yes, you should be able to find adminscripts directory. Let me know if this helps.
